Keep your shorts on!

Keep your shorts on!

The explosion of plastic products over the last 7 decades has been extraordinary; to the point where we now simply cannot now live without them. The world is producing nearly 300 million tons of plastic every year, half of which is for single use, and more than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans each year according to www.plasticoceans.org.

Every year thousands of marine animals - including turtles, dolphins, whales, fish and birds - are harmed or killed by plastics in the ocean. Abandoned nylon fishing nets, plastic bags and plastic bottles are a significant part of the problem.

Thankfully more and more companies are coming up with innovative ideas for using recycled and reconstituted plastic. It’s amazing to think that old fishing nets and plastics taken from our seas can now be turned into something new, beautiful and useful… like men’s board shorts!

Australian brand The Rocks Push, have a fab range of stylish and comfortable board shorts that are also good for the environment! All of their men’s and boy’s board shorts are made from Econyl, which is a regenerated nylon yarn made in Italy from salvaged fishing nets. One ton of fishing nets can make 6,000 pairs of board shorts, so for every 6 pairs of Rocks Push men’s board shorts 1 kilo of discarded nets floating in the ocean have been salvaged and recycled. Each pair also comes complete with a waterproof wallet and is delivered in a reusable swim shorts bag also made from recycled bottles.

The Rocks Push partner with the Australian Marine Conservation Society each season and donate all profits from one of their prints to saving the Great Barrier Reef from industrialisation. So, you can be safe in the knowledge that when you buy a pair of The Rocks Push shorts from Sand Dollar you’re becoming part of the solution, not the problem.

Top tip! You can also share the same cool style with your little mini-me as The Rocks Push have a selection of fab matching father and son shorts!
